The Executive Committee’s role is to assist the President, provide direction to the organization and ensure the smooth operation of the CVCA on behalf of the Board of Directors. The committee meets regularly to review current issues facing the CVCA as well as the activities of other committees.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE:
The Nominating committee is tasked with making recommendations on Board renewal on an annual basis. The committee’s recommendations reflect the composition of the CVCA’s membership. The committee is responsible for identifying suitable, qualified candidates and for ascertaining their willingness to serve on the Board. The committee also discusses continuing Board membership with existing Directors.

TAX POLICY COMMITTEE:
The Tax Policy committee’s role is to oversee the implementation of Board tax priorities and to advocate in favor of the removal of specific impediments to the smooth conduct of venture capital and private equity business that currently exist in the federal Income Tax Act. Presently, securing improvements to the Section 116 process remains a major priority.

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS COMMITTEE:
The Government Relations committee’s role is to oversee the conduct of the CVCA’s relations with all levels of government. The committee is charged with developing a pro-active agenda to present to government(s) and with ensuring that the industry’s interests are defended as circumstances warrant. The committee is currently working with the OSC and other provincial commissions on the potential registration requirements for Venture Capital and Buyout funds.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE:
The Membership committee’s role is to grow the membership base of the CVCA by developing strategies for new member recruitment and existing member retention. The committee pays particular attention to marketing strategies and materials that are targeted at potential and existing members.

STATISTICS, REPORTING AND VALUATION COMMITTEE:
The Statistics, Reporting and Valuation committee’s role is to ensure that the valuation and accounting standards to which member funds are subject are accurate and reflect evolving internationally accepted standards. In addition, the committee provides oversight with respect to the performance, investment and fundraising data that the CVCA releases by liaising with the data service provider on a regular basis.

CFO TASKFORCE COMMITTEE
A leading group of member firm CFO’s collaborating to: Create a forum for top financial officers to exchange experiences and points if view and to create a collective voice to best represent members interests; Identify and prioritize financial, accounting, reporting and auditing issues of importance to the industry and to comment in it’s best interests; and, to review and comment on best practices that are or should be prevalent in the industry for the benefit of all members.

FINANCE COMMITTEE:
The Finance committee’s role is to ensure that that the CVCA’s finances continue to be managed in a sound and prudent fashion, including potentially developing a major expenditure policy with consideration to insulating the organization from severe declines in revenues. It carries out its tasks by preparing an annual budget with input from other committees, ensuring that there is full and comprehensive financial reporting and liasising with external auditors.
