Our People

The CVCA is a member-driven organization. The private capital industry does face some tough challenges, but we can determine our future through the commitment of our diverse and experienced membership.

Committee Participation & Eligibility

CVCA committees help guide our initiatives and graciously contribute to our programming and services. More than 100 CVCA members from across Canada assist the association each year by serving on our committees for a three-year term. These volunteers work together to keep our industry thriving and competitive.

Commitment

  • Committee members shall serve 3‑year terms
  • 50% minimum participation required
  • Participation will be reviewed annually
  • A temporary one-year leave is permitted, e.g., family leave

Eligibility

  • Required to be a CVCA Member; non-members are not permitted
  • Subject matter expertise may be an asset on certain committees
  • Geography, investing stage, diversity, and sponsorship will be considered during the selection process

The CVCA Committees

Annual Conference Committee: Calgary, May 27-29, 2025

The annual conference committee’s role is to ensure that this event continues to grow attendance and sponsorship levels by providing a memorable experience for registrants, and by attracting a strong turnout of senior industry executives from Canada and abroad.

Awards Committee

The awards committee is responsible for managing the processes for selecting winners of all key CVCA award programs including: Deal of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and the award for Community Leadership.

CFO Network

A CFO network deals with regulatory and reporting issues affecting member funds. The network also serves as a forum for CFOs to exchange news and views about emerging issues.

Data Committee

The data committee is responsible for supporting CVCA as the authoritative source of private capital data in Canada, by ensuring the quality of research, analysis, and technical capabilities, including CVCA Intelligence and quarterly market reports.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee

The CVCA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is pursuing a program-level approach to improve diversity and inclusion in the venture capital and private equity community to foster greater diversity of thought which will in turn drive performance in the industry.

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Working Group

The ESG Working Group empowers members to effectively navigate the evolving ESG landscape by providing essential education, resources, and reporting tools. The group fosters a culture of continuous improvement through best practices and facilitates impactful dialogue across the GP and LP communities on ESG issues.

Executive Committee

The executive committee’s role is to assist the chair, and help guide the association to ensure the smooth operation of the CVCA on behalf of its board of directors. The committee meets regularly to review current issues facing the CVCA as well as the activities of other committees.

Finance Committee

The finance committee ensures that sound financial practices are in place, and that there are sufficient liquid assets to meet any extended period of declining revenues.

The CVCA Fund Formation Working Group is responsible for providing Fund Formation Documents.

Government Relations Committee

The government relations committee’s role is to oversee the development of the CVCA’s advocacy priorities and the execution of meaningful engagement with all levels of government.

Industry Awareness & Editorial Committee

Communicating the value of private capital to media, stakeholders, governments, and the public is essential. The Industry Awareness and Editorial Committee is dedicated to addressing this challenge through strategic initiatives and effective communication efforts.

The international committee’s role is to develop a strategy and action plan that promotes Canadian venture capital and private equity asset classes in priority foreign markets.

The 50, a collaboration between the CVCA and the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS), will be an annual online guide to the Canadian venture capital (VC) ecosystem and feature 50 of Canada’s VC firms.
