The 50 will accept applications from CVCA members that offer venture services including traditional venture capital firms, venture debt providers, corporate venture capital and financial services firms with dedicated venture capital funds. Applicants must be members of the CVCA and in good standing to apply.

Please note that the judgement criteria for The 50 includes overall list considerations to ensure that those selected represent a broad and balanced view of the Canadian VC ecosystem. The Nomination Committee’s final list will comprise venture firms that cover a range of sectors and stages of investment, established and emerging/new firms, corporate VCs, and those with a focus on diversity, equality and inclusion. Most importantly, The 50 is not a ranking of the top 50 firms in Canada, but rather a guide to the Canadian venture capital ecosystem that features 50 of Canada’s VC firms.

To be eligible to apply, you must be a VC that has a demonstrated interest and presence in the Canadian VC ecosystem. VC firms do not need to have their headquarters in Canada but should have a Canadian presence (i.e. office, staff) and have invested or are currently investing in Canadian companies.

Please note that the Nomination Committee’s judgement criteria for The 50 includes international focus/presence” of VC firms. Depending on the level of interest from applicants, greater priority may be given to Canada-based VC firms in the selection process.

Do I need to be open to foreign Limited Partners?

The fundraising status of applicants is a selection consideration for the Nomination Committee and The 50 will be shared with foreign LPs that may be interested in investing in Canadian VC funds. However, the overarching aim of the publication is to help Canadian VC firms build their international connections and expand their network.

Can I make changes to my application after I have submitted the form?

Yes. Once submitted, you will still be able to retrieve your form and make changes right up until the application deadline of Friday Sept 292023.

How is The 50 used by the Trade Commissioner Service?

The 50 is a collaboration between the CVCA and the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS). The aim of The 50 is to showcase members of the CVCA to foreign LPs and GPs, expanding the global network of Canadian VC funds and building investment interest in Canada. The spotlighted VC firms are updated each year. Leveraging the international network of Canadian Trade Commissioners abroad, the inaugural publication of The 50was circulated to foreign LPs and GPs in regions such as Asia, Europe, the US and the Middle East. Trade Commissioners will continue to use The 50 as a calling card — to promote the Canadian ecosystem and to connect interested investors to those who are profiled.

Who do I contact if I am having technical difficulties with my application?
