Here's the impact you'll make and what we'll accomplish together


The Engagement Director works across all of TELUS’ business units (Health, AGTech, IOT, Smart Cities/Security, Digital, Tech Strategy, Home Solutions, Consumer) to build relationships, understand their strategic aspirations and directions, and translate those learnings into actionable roadmaps and investment opportunities while providing critical support post investment to our portfolio companies.

You will engage directly with the senior leadership across our TELUS organization - and the entrepreneurs we invest in - to help their teams build and align on strategic plans and business plans. You will provide much needed leadership and guidance to elaborate and provide meaningful and specific benefits that the TELUS Ventures team can bring to the operations of both groups.

Here’s how

  • Develop, track and influence the TELUS Ventures team’s ongoing investment strategy by developing key business unit relationships with senior leaders from across the organization
  • Lead a thoughtful and well-researched engagement program cycle with business units; identify key influencers, decision makers and those setting strategy
  • Determine key priorities for Horizon 2 and 3 activities within these teams
  • Manage the collection and distillation of strategic reviews from across the Company
  • Assist in the undertaking of potential investee due diligence and in the development of investment these
  • Work closely with start-up Accelerators, Incubators and manage Partnerships from across Canada to source new opportunities
  • Lead the creation and management of marketing material and public communications, thought leadership articles and other media publications to position TELUS Ventures as a top investment partner for leading entrepreneurs in Canada
  • Stay up to date on trends in the technology industry and the current and future challenges facing TELUS

Qualifications

You’re the missing piece of the puzzle

  • 4+ years of experience in strategic management consulting (ideally in telecom, health or technology innovation) with top tier firm or progressing responsibility in corporate development or experience (8+ years) driving external partnerships/Large Complex Sales in top tier technology based organization
  • Proven experience in establishing and managing executive relationships
  • Ability to understand technology and/or business objectives & translate those to actionable outcomes and then provide oversight/management to achieve objectives
  • Excellent presentation skills including exec briefings via PowerPoint and in person briefings
  • Exceptional project management capabilities with ability to coordinate multiple, simultaneous projects and initiatives and work within an environment of rapid change and evolving priorities
  • Ability to push for results among peers while building consensus and buy in among all levels
  • University degree in Technology (Computer Science/Engineering) or Business, or similar; MBA degree desirable but not required
  • Fun, low ego, entrepreneurial spirited, team oriented, strong will to win and excel
  • A desire to use technology and venture capital tools to drive improved social outcomes in our communities, country and around the world
